An Origin

The plan for this site is to create a modern web archive revolving around Mount Monadnock. In it I hope to create a repository of maps, historical images and other artifacts. For more modern works still under copyright, the intent will be to catalog them for awareness. I want this to be a great resource for any visitor hoping to learn more about the history and culture of the mountain.
In the initial launch of this site I will just have the map archive active. I’ve collected a lot of old historic photographs as well but want to come up with a better way of cataloging them.
Time permitting, I hope also to write a series of posts that delve into the mountain and its history via old maps and books. Partly to try and determine what’s still out there to be found - and on the other side summarizing and speculating at what we now can only guess. There’s also a lot of fun to be had with modern GIS tools, satellite imagery and LiDAR!
This website was built using Hugo, a static site generator. I’m still learning the ropes with this platform, but once I’m more confident in the site design I will likely move the site’s source files to a GitHub project to enable collaboration on the archive.
